Man sitting for an extended period illustrating the effects of prolonged sitting on posture and spinal health.

It’s easy to sit for long periods of time when it’s dark and cold outside; however, it’s important that you get up, exercise, and keep your body moving. Sitting for too long increases pressure on your spinal discs and decreases the blood flow to your spine. This can lead to back pain. If you start to feel back pain while sitting, you’ve probably been sitting for too long. Get up and try to walk around a little bit or stretch. If you sit a lot at work, make sure you get up and take breaks.
