Exercise and Spinal Stenosis

Exercising is important for promoting overall health and is very good for managing pains such as spinal stenosis. Here are some safe and effective exercises for those with spinal stenosis:

  • Strength Training: Strength training can be a great way to strengthen your spine and prevent pain. You should focus on strengthening your core and legs. For core strengthening you could do pelvic tilts and for leg strengthening you could do wall sits and leg lifts.
  • Stretching: Stretching helps to release tension in your muscles and joints which helps to improve your mobility. The best stretches for combating spinal stenosis are hamstring stretches and cat-cow stretches.
  • Low-Impact Aerobics: Low-impact aerobics such as walking and swimming can be great for those with spinal stenosis because they don’t put pressure on the spine.
