Spondylolisthesis is when a vertebrae, typically in your lower back, slips out of place and moves forward, causing instability in your spine.
Although some people experience no pain, there are several symptoms that can arise if the displaced bone presses on a nerve or causes a narrowing of the spinal canal:
• Tight hamstring feeling
• Leg or buttock pain
• Numbness
• Muscle weakness
• Protruding abdomen
• Difficulty walking
• Loss of bladder or bowel control (in extreme cases)
Spondylolisthesis can be treated non-surgically with cortisol or anti-inflammatory injections to relieve pain, or surgically with a spinal fusion or artificial disc replacement to restore stability.
If you were in an accident and suffered a stress fracture or other injury, and are now experiencing chronic or recurring pain in your lower back, I invite you to schedule a consultation with Montesano Spine And Sport. Together we’ll pinpoint the source of your pain and develop a treatment plan that best fits your needs.
